Yael Huerta

Dr. Huerta was born and raised in Mexico City. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 2017. After graduation, he completed a small animal rotating internship at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island, New York , followed by a surgery internship at Miami Veterinary Specialists , a surgical oncology internship at the University of Florida, and a surgical research internship at the University of Pennsylvania . He then pursued his lifelong goal of becoming a veterinary surgeon by completing a Small Animal Surgery Residency at Metropolitan Veterinary Associates in July 2026. Dr. Huerta is excited to join the team at Animal Specialty Center.

Dr. Huerta has a special interest in oncologic and orthopedic surgery, while enjoying all aspects of soft tissue and orthopedic surgery. He is passionate about providing compassionate, individualized care to every patient and helping pets return to the best possible quality of life. Outside the hospital, Dr. Huerta enjoys running, working out, playing volleyball, and spending time outdoors. He believes that laughter is one of the best forms of therapy and strives to bring warmth and positivity to every interaction with clients, patients, and colleagues.
